How To Decorate A Home Office With A Modern Style

Business Blog

If you work from home, the way your office space looks can make or break productivity levels. Creating a professional-feeling space may help you become more motivated, and it helps if the work space feels separated from the rest of the house in some way. One way to set the office apart is by giving it a sleek, modern vibe that puts you in a work mindset.

Here are some tips for creating a modern-style home office:

Update the walls with a sophisticated new color. If you don't want to paint all of the office walls, you can just do one or two accent walls. You can choose from a wide range of gray tones from light and airy dove gray to dark and sleek charcoal gray, depending on your preferences.

If you choose a dark gray color, break up some of the drama with white baseboards and trim. If you like the idea of using gray but don't want to paint the walls, you can just update a wood fireplace, a built-in bookcase or other architectural details with the color.

Other modern paint color choices include eggplant, steel blue, pewter and oyster shell white, which has a slight silver tone.

Choose sleek, streamlined furniture. After painting the office walls, the next important step is choosing updated furniture. Since you'll be spending a lot of time in the space, you'll want it to be both stylish and comfortable.

Translucent acrylic furniture is one modern furniture option.  These pieces will work especially well if your office is on the smaller side, as the see-through material takes up less visual space.

You can choose a clear tempered glass work desk and an acrylic chair, or get a matching acrylic set. Although you will have to regularly wipe fingerprints off of the pieces, they're as durable as they are attractive.

As another contemporary furniture idea, you can't go wrong with a black wood desk and a black leather executive chair, a combo with timeless appeal.

Give the office a personal touch with modern décor items. For instance, if you went with gray walls and black furniture, enhance walls shelves or a bookcase with bright orange or yellow picture frames.

You can also display colorful contemporary artwork prints on the walls. Real or faux green plants in sleek white pots will also give the space vibrant touch while providing a calming distraction.

As for textiles, add warmth to the room with a fluffy, faux fur area rug in a sophisticated white or ecru shade. If the office has a love seat or chair, add either white or bright-colored throw pillows.

Creating Better Employee Policies

A few years back, I was faced with a serious dilemma. Our employees had started to strike for what they said were dangerous working conditions when everything was in line with the recommendations from our parent company. We knew that we had to make things right, so we started working as a team to make things better. It was incredible to see how big of a difference we were able to make. Within a few short months, we completely overhauled our business and our employees felt like we cared about them. This website is here to help you to create better employee policies.
